Ensuring Comfort and Safety: Understanding General Anesthesia
We prioritize the comfort and well-being of your child during every dental visit. When treatment needs exceed what can be tolerated in the traditional dental setting, treatment in a hospital setting under general anesthesia may be indicated, to ensure a safe and stress-free experience. Here’s what you need to know:
What is General Anesthesia?
General anesthesia is a controlled state of unconsciousness induced by medications, allowing your child to be completely asleep and unaware during dental procedures.
When is General Anesthesia Recommended?
General anesthesia might be recommended for:
- Extensive Dental Procedures:
- Complex treatments that may take an extended period.
- Invasive Dental Surgeries:
- Certain surgical procedures that require the highest level of comfort.
- Patients with Anxiety or Special Needs:
- Children with severe anxiety, special needs, or those unable to cooperate for essential treatments.
General Anesthesia Overview
When completing treatment under general anesthesia all the patient’s treatment needs are completed in one visit while the patient is asleep. Treatment in this setting can be beneficial in that it can prevent traumatic dental experiences that lead to life-long dental anxiety. We complete treatment in the operating room at two hospitals: Pella Regional Hospital in Pella and MercyOne in Des Moines.
